As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is about to kick off tomorrow, JioHotstar is gearing up to increase its viewership. The platform is in the process of launching additional data plans and introducing new subscription options. Along with this, discussions are being held reportedly with large telecom players.
Telecom Partnerships for Expansion
Reliance Jio has held discussions with Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea on offering bundled Hotstar subscriptions with their telecom data plans. The development is likely to boost the number of viewers, making JioHotstar reach more than 1 billion viewers on TV and digital media during IPL 2025. Telecom data consumption is likely to grow sharply during the tournament, according to industry analysts.
In IPL 2024, Jio Cinema had 620 million viewers and Star Sports Network had 541 million viewers. This year's IPL is very important for JioStar, which was established after the merger of Viacom18 and Star India Private Limited. The platform is looking to earn ₹4,500 crore in advertisement and has already tied up with 20 sponsors.
Airtel's New JioHotstar Data Plans
Before IPL 2025, Airtel has launched two new data packs with a JioHotstar subscription:
- ₹100 Plan – 30-day validity, 5GB data, and OTT membership.
- ₹195 Plan – 90-day validity, 15GB data, and JioHotstar subscription.
Also, Jio has released IPL-specific prepaid recharges, like a ₹100 plan with 90-day validity and 5GB data. Also, IPL can be enjoyed for free by Jio customers who recharge by ₹299 and above.
With these strategic actions, JioHotstar will make IPL 2025 one of the most viewed cricket tournaments ever.
