Amazon Imposes ₹49 Processing Fee On Discounted Buy

Amazon, the prominent e-commerce company, has added a ₹49 processing fee to some transactions. This fee is applicable when an instant discount of over ₹500 is given on a buy. In case of a discount of ₹500 or below, no fee is levied.

Amazon Joins Flipkart's Lead

Just like Flipkart already makes a comparable fee, Amazon too has taken the same route. For instance, if a customer buys a product priced at ₹10,000 and avails of a ₹1,000 discount via a bank offer, the amount to be paid would be ₹9,049 (discounted price of ₹9,000 + ₹49 processing fee).

Important Facts Regarding the Processing Fee

  • Applicable when the discount is more than ₹500.
  • Non-refundable in the event of returns.
  • First charged on no-cost EMI buys and bank offers.
  • Applicable to all customers, including Prime members.

Amazon's Reasoning

According to Amazon, this fee assists in managing and processing bank offers. Amazon has already begun charging this fee on qualifying purchases.

This is a step in sync with Flipkart's current policy so that customers end up paying an extra fee for grabbing increased discounts.
