Ghibli Craze Breaks Records: ChatGPT Gains 1 Million Users In Just One Hour

Ghibli Takes Over Social Media

Instagram, Facebook, and X are now flooded with Ghibli-style photos. Ever since OpenAI introduced the Ghibli studio feature on ChatGPT, users have been actively engaging with it. As a result, ChatGPT's user base has seen an unprecedented surge. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently announced that ChatGPT gained one million users in just an hour after launching this feature. He shared this milestone in a post on X.

Unprecedented Growth for ChatGPT

Altman recalled that when ChatGPT was launched 26 months ago, it took five days to reach a million users. However, the new Ghibli filter achieved this milestone in just one hour, marking a record-breaking increase in user engagement. Responding to the overwhelming response, Altman humorously commented, "It would be great if users were a little more relaxed with Ghibli. Our team is struggling to keep up!"

GPU Overload Leads to Usage Limits

Due to the high demand for Ghibli image generation, OpenAI has had to impose restrictions to manage GPU load. Free-tier users can now generate only three Ghibli-style images per day, while premium subscribers enjoy unlimited access. Despite these limitations, the feature remains widely popular, with users also extensively utilizing it on Grok.
