Canada Responds To Trump's Trade War With Retaliatory Tariffs

25% Tariffs on U.S. Auto Industry Products

Canada has responded firmly to U.S. President Donald Trump's declaration of retaliatory tariffs. The Canadian government has opted to apply a 25% tariff on some of the auto industry products that are imported from the United States.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said that such tariffs will be imposed on non-compliant American vehicles under the North American Free Trade Agreement (CUSMA). Specific information about how many cars will be targeted is still vague.

Trump Broadens Tariffs on Several Countries

At the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump has proceeded with his overall tariff plan. He has placed tariffs between 10% and 50% on a number of nations, targeting both U.S. allies and trade competitors.

Response from the affected countries is mixed. China has criticized the action as unilateral and unwarranted. The European Union (EU) has also vehemently opposed the new tariffs. As a counteraction, Canada has struck back by putting tariffs on American products, demonstrating its clear resistance to Trump's trade policies.
