
RBI Issues New Currency Notes
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the issue of new Rs.10 and Rs.500 banknotes carrying the signature of its recently appointed Governor, Sanjay Malhotra.
Notes to be Issued as per Mahatma Gandhi Series
As per an official release made on Friday, the new denomination notes will carry the same design and theme as the current Mahatma Gandhi series. The RBI has also clarified that the earlier released Rs.10 and Rs.500 denomination notes would continue to be a legal tender.
Extension of Earlier Announcement
The RBI had made an announcement last month about issuing Rs.100 and Rs.200 denomination notes signed by Malhotra. These new Rs.10 and Rs.500 denomination notes are an extension of this ongoing process.
Malhotra Replaces Shaktikanta Das
Sanjay Malhotra became the RBI Governor in December last year, succeeding Shaktikanta Das, who was in office for a prolonged duration.
