Astronauts Blast Off from Kazakhstan on Russian Soyuz MS-27
Three astronauts departed for the International Space Station (ISS) on Tuesday. They blasted off on Russia's Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft. The blastoff was at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
International Crew Departs for 8-Month Space Mission
The team consists of Johnny Kim from NASA, Sergey Ryzhikov from Russia, and Alexei Zubritsky. Their trip will be eight months on the ISS. NASA assured that Johnny Kim will conduct scientific experiments during the stay. His research is designed to help future space missions.

Johnny Kim is also a native of Los Angeles and is a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy. He is a pilot and surgeon in the Navy. His experience is an asset to the ISS team.
