Trump Suggests Potential Russia-Ukraine Peace Agreement This Week

Peace Negotiations May Move Forward This Week

U.S. President Donald Trump said that there could be a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia within the week. Trump indicated that, otherwise, the two nations might stop negotiating peace. Russia has indicated willingness to negotiate, and Trump was optimistic about a settlement.

He has stated on social media that the two countries will likely have huge business transactions. He added that such collaborations would be helpful in rebuilding Ukraine's destroyed infrastructure.

Draft Agreement Shared With European Leaders

Trump highlighted that the United States has prepared a draft peace agreement and has presented it to European allies. Trump stated that the reaction from European leaders has been encouraging. Negotiations are anticipated to resume in London next week.

In relation to the negotiations, there has been the signing of a memorandum of intent with Ukraine in relation to a mineral resources agreement to support the peace process. Further, American officials said the U.S. could formally recognize Russia's sovereignty over Crimea within a broader accord.

Ongoing Conflict Despite Peace Efforts

Despite efforts to be peaceful, violence between Ukraine and Russia still ensues. Russia, having previously announced an Easter ceasefire, reported Ukrainian forces in Kiev making attacks with drones and bombs. The Russian government cited that the operations of the Ukrainian forces have never stopped.
