India all-rounder Shivam Dube was taken aback when MS Dhoni's name was chanted by the Vellore Institute of Technology students in Tamil Nadu. The 30-year-old star for the Chennai Super Kings was invited to the college as the main guest for a function.
After all-rounder Dube was welcomed as a guest at VIT, the conversation took an unexpected turn when he started talking about his IPL team, the Chennai Super Kings. The campus audience started screaming the name of CSK's captain and longtime fan favourite, MS Dhoni, as soon as Dube spoke about the team.
After observing the audience's reaction, Dube continued by promising to share the occasion with Dhoni when he saw the CSK captain.
The explosive batter Dube has received a lot of accolades for his recent exploits while wearing the national colours. His most notable displays came during India's T20 series against Afghanistan.
Dube demonstrated his talent in the opening two games of the Afghanistan T20I series by hitting two flawless half-centuries. His first memorable performance came at Mohali, where he calmly scored 60 runs off 40 balls to lead India to a 6-wicket victory. Later, he struck an incredible 63 off 32 balls in the Indore encounter, which helped India win by 6 wickets for the second time in a row over Afghanistan.
Due to Dube's T20 game performances, there has been a lot of talk on whether or not to include him in the Indian team that will play in the T20 World Cup in the USA. Dube can offer India a strong batting option in their pursuit of their first ICC trophy since the 2013 Champions' Trophy, which was also led by the now-retired MS Dhoni. He is an explosive batsman with good finishing ability.
Dube will be concentrating on the forthcoming IPL 2024, where, if he keeps up his strong play, he may be able to lock up a spot in the Indian World Cup squad. With this likely to be Dhoni's final IPL season, the reigning champions, CSK, would want to make the most of Dube.
