As Delhi Finance Minister Atishi unveiled a Rs 76,000 crore budget today, the government of Delhi declared that all women living in the national capital above the age of eighteen would receive Rs 1,000 per month under the Mukhyamantri Samman Yojna.
The administration led by Arvind Kejriwal is presenting its tenth budget.
"Earlier, residents of Delhi who had limited resources used to send their sons to private schools and daughters to government schools, which were in shambles," Atishi stated while announcing the decision in the Delhi Assembly.
"I was once informed by 95% of female pupils that their brothers attended private schools. However, female students from Delhi's government schools are now passing the IIT and NEET exams," she continued.
"Till now, it was that the child of a rich family would be rich and the child of a poor family would be poor, but this was completely contrary to the concept of 'Ram Rajya'," the finance minister of Delhi stated.
Since 2015, the Kejriwal administration has constructed 22,711 new classrooms. Our government has prioritised education... We have allocated Rs 16,396 crore for education this year."
