Deepak Chahar, MS Dhoni's colleague in the Chennai Super Kings, is confident that the legendary cricketer still has the skill and stamina to play two more seasons in the Indian Premier League (IPL) despite growing rumours that IPL 2024 may be his final.
Many people thought that the 2023 Indian Premier League would be Dhoni's final season with CSK, particularly given the advantageous circumstances surrounding his team's record-tying fifth championship win under his leadership. To compensate his enormous fan base for their unwavering support, Dhoni promised them he will play in the forthcoming IPL 2024 once more.
Since then, a lot of people have commented on the rumours that the batter will eventually end his storied IPL career in the next season. In an interview with Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricket player who is now a commentator on YouTube, Chahar emphasised that Dhoni has demonstrated time and time again in IPL 2023 that he still has the same deadly touch.
"In the Twenty20 format, you quit when you believe that 140 kmph is too fast. We see that in the nets too, as demonstrated by MS Dhoni's sixes against 145 mph last year," Chahar remarked.
Chahar emphasised once more that Dhoni is focused on playing this season and that the CSK skipper will decide what happens next.
He's going to play this year. He'll probably make a decision after this season. In my opinion, he can play for another two years."
Dhoni participated in 16 games for CSK during their victorious IPL 2023 campaign, however he only scored 104 runs, with a couple of those games seeing him strike at a rate of 182.46. Due to Dhoni's total absence from the game since the IPL 2023 final, many former cricket players and fans are beginning to question if he will be able to play beyond this season. Even when his statistics suggest otherwise, MS Dhoni's supporters still anticipate the same brilliance from their "Thala."
Even though it's anticipated that Dhoni would spend more time managing the team than batting in the forthcoming season, the five-time winners will still need his leadership and presence on the pitch.
