On Wednesday, Arvind Kejriwal declared that if he joined the BJP, the Enforcement Directorate would no longer issue summonses to him. The chief minister of Delhi, who has ignored eight summonses so far, attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an X post, claiming that opposition leaders were being "forced" to join the BJP.
Kejriwal responded after the inquiry agency missed its summons in a money laundering investigation into the purported liquor policy scandal and filed a new complaint before a Delhi court, requesting his prosecution.
"Rises by the Enforcement Directorate ask them if they want to go to jail or the BJP. A approximate translation of Kejriwal's Hindi post was, "Those who refuse to join the BJP are sent to jail."
"If Satyendar Jain, Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh join the BJP today, they will be granted bail tomorrow. If I join the BJP now, even I will no longer receive summonses from the Enforcement Directorate," he continued.
The national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) added that time is a powerful and ever-evolving force.
When Kejriwal was first summoned in connection with the money laundering case, the Chief Minister failed to appear, so the Enforcement Directorate filed a motion in a local court to prosecute him.
The most recent complaint likewise concerns Kejriwal's non-respect of the summons.
All of the summonses from the Enforcement Directorate had been deemed "illegal" by Kejriwal, who had also previously told the agency that he may be questioned over videoconference after March 12.
