Outrage has been stirred by a video showing a Delhi police officer hitting Muslim men who are offering Friday prayers on the street. The official was placed on immediate suspension.
On Friday, a large throng gathered at a mosque in the Inderlok region of Delhi, causing several men to overcrowd and pray on the road.
A few police officers showed up at the location during the prayers and made an effort to scatter the throng. One of them was seen striking and kicking men who were kneeling for prayers on camera during the event.
The throng surrounded the police officer and objected to his actions after the incident caused immense uproar.
Upon sharing a video of the event, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi said, "It appears that the Delhi Police soldier who kicked a person during namaz is not cognizant of basic human decencies." What is this soldier's hatred that fills his heart? It is recommended that Delhi Police initiate a case under the relevant laws against this official and order his termination."
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), MK Meena, responded to the occurrence by stating that an investigation has been started. The DCP said that in addition to disciplinary measures, the official has been suspended with immediate effect.
In the meanwhile, following the incident, the area's security has been increased.
A mob has collected on the road, and law enforcement officers were stationed there to try to keep order, according to a video from the Inderlok area.
