Khushbu Sundar, an actor turned politician, responded to the uproar surrounding her remarks on Wednesday regarding the welfare system of the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government, which provides Rs 1,000 to the women heads of every family in the state.

Following Sundar's description of the Tamil Nadu government's programme of providing Rs 1,000 per month to women heads of households as a "pitchai" (alms), the women's wing of the DMK has been staging protests around the state.

"If they receive an alms of Rs 1,000, will ladies cast their votes for them? People wouldn't have to turn to begging for Rs 1,000 alms if DMK closes down Tasmac and ends the drug problem, Sundar, a member of the National Commission for Women, stated on Monday during a BJP rally in Chennai.

The likely BJP candidate from Central Chennai, Khushbu Sundar, claimed in a video released on social media on Tuesday that the DMK misunderstood what she had said.

Rather than paying women Rs 1,000, you should close down the number of liquor establishments. They would be able to support their family by saving thousands of rupees in this way. They can walk with their heads held high and be content. That's what I intended to say. However, you attempted to twist what I said to make it appear as though I was demeaning women. Speaking poorly of women is ingrained in DMK's DNA, not mine, Sundar stated in the video message.

Khushbu Sundar declared, "If I have ever made a mistake, I am not the type to run away from it," demonstrating her dedication to accountability. Kalaignar Karunanidhi is the one who taught me how to speak fearlessly. Though it might have slipped your mind, I haven't (DMK).

Geetha Jeevan, the minister for social welfare and women's empowerment in Tamil Nadu, responded to Sundar's remarks by saying, "Actor Kushbu has spoken in a derogatory manner, calling the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam as 'pitchai.'" 1.16 crore Tamil women who are receiving benefits from this system have been humiliated by her.

This is incredibly agonising and demonstrates her ignorance of the anguish endured by women. Are you aware of the benefits this Rs. 1,000 has for women? You walk out of your house, grab a microphone, and say anything you want without knowing anything at all. "I abhor this," Jeevan continued.
