Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said performance and dedication take precedence in politics. Speaking at a media interaction in Mangalagiri on Monday, he answered questions related to the possibility of his brother, Jana Sena leader Nagababu, receiving a ministerial position.
"Even without a political background, my elder brother achieved success on his own. Now, the next generation benefits from that foundation. It is my duty to recognize those who have stood by us and contributed to our journey," said Pawan Kalyan. He acknowledged Nagababu's equal efforts within the party despite facing criticism from YSRCP leaders, noting that Nagababu's commitment to the Jana Sena Party remained unwavering.
Merit Over Nepotism
He ruled out the notion of nepotism and casteism, saying it is about hard work and talent. "Nagababu was announced as MP earlier but was asked to step down. His efforts are not weighed based on caste or nepotism, but by what he has delivered. We need to analyze the performance in order to assign the role," he explained.
He also spoke about the work of Manohar and Hariprasad who were early members of Jana Sena Party, who said that the political decision-making process is purely on merit and dedication.
Nagababu's Future
Regarding Nagababu's future in the party, Pawan Kalyan said that the MLC position is already under discussion, and the ministerial position might come later. "We analyzed Nagababu's sacrifices and looked at the Rajya Sabha initially. When that was not possible, we looked at an MLC role. Such decisions are based on commitment and performance, not caste," he added.
For example, he cited Kandula Durgesh whose induction into the ministry the political leader said was the culmination of Durgesh's capabilities rather than of any caste. "Work and not caste is the hallmark of politicians," he reiterated.
