Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has declared her undying commitment to the government and her party, TDP. "If I feel it hurts the government or the reputation of the TDP, I will neglect even my children," she asserted in a recent interview regarding the dismissal of her private assistant (PA).
He continued, "Jagadish, my personal PA, was paid from my personal funds. Despite warnings to him about the allegations against him, complaints continued to come in. So, ten days ago I relieved him of the position".
Visakhapatnam Central Jail Inspection
On Sunday, Minister Anitha inspected the Visakhapatnam Central Jail in the wake of reports about cell phones discovered near the Penna block and allegations of ganja distribution aided by prison staff. While conducting inspections of departments, she asked for accountability. "Under the YSRCP government, security, management, and staff transfers were poorly handled. Many officers and employees have been holding the same posts for over five years. Our coalition government is now tackling the issues methodically," she added.
She stated that a tiny cannabis plant had been discovered in the vicinity of the Narmada Block of the jail. She ordered installation of CCTV cameras in all the areas to ensure proper surveillance. "Anyone who is involved in any wrongdoing will be dealt with stringently," she said.
Clampdown on Use of Cell Phones in Prisons
Minister Anitha revealed there was an investigation open for the discovery of cell phones within the jail. "We are tracing SIM numbers, dissecting call logs, and identifying those involved. Appropriate action shall be taken based on the findings," she said. She also confirmed that others linked to the case would appear in court.
The minister said the government would increase staff strength and employ modern technology to enhance surveillance in the prison system. "We will shift those involved in the cannabis cases to the Rajamahendravaram jail," she added.
Superintendent Mahesh Babu, Deputy Superintendent Sai Praveen, Arilova CI Malleswara Rao, and other officials accompanied the minister during the visit.
