Raghurama Alleges Corruption In CID Legal Payments, Plans To Write To ACB

AP Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishna Raju has announced his intention to request an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation into the payment of Rs. 48 lakhs to Kamepalli Tulasi Babu, who, according to Raju, is not a practicing lawyer but served as a legal assistant in CID cases.

Raju made this statement during his visit to Guntur District Jail on Wednesday, where he gave a 164 statement in connection with his custodial torture case.

Accusations Against Tulasi Babu's Appointment and Payments

Raghurama revealed that Tulasi Babu, an accused in the custodial torture case, was appointed as a legal assistant on October 6, 2020, despite officially registering as an advocate with the AP Bar Council only in October 2021.

According to Raghurama, the CID paid Tulasi Babu Rs. 48 lakh for assisting in 12 cases within three months of his enrollment. He suggested this indicates a close relationship between Tulasi Babu and former CID chief Sunil Kumar.

Allegations of Misconduct in CID Case Trials

Furthermore, Raghurama even accused that Tulasi Babu entreated the High Tribunal to assign him 12 cases, yet not a single one took place. He was of the opinion that the government of Andhra Pradesh has withdrawn 1 crore rupees, which were meant for trials, but trials haven’t been done, thus identifying corruption in CID.

Raghurama's Next Steps

He also instructed that he will issue a notice to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) demanding an official investigation in the matter of alleged irregularities.
