
At 5:30 a.m. the earthquake hit Delhi NCR and sent panic waves through the residents. The jolts experienced around 5:30 AM motivated the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to call on people to be cautious and to remain attentive as there is a high possibility of the aftershocks.
Earthquake Details and Epicenter
Delhi and its neighboring cities Noida and Guragram were less affected by the earthquake which lasted for a few seconds. The earthquake of 4.0 magnitude of seismic waves was reported by officials. The epicenter was identified 5 km away from Durgabai Deshmukh College in Dhaula Kuan where it shook the ground.
The vibrations of the rumble were also heard by many of the people. The rush of people in panic made the situation chaotic. However, the authorities have confirmed no injuries or the destruction of any property till now.
PM Modi's Response
In his Facebook and Twitter posts following the earthquake, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the people to be cautious and alert
"People of Delhi NCR and nearby places have reported to have felt the tremors. Everyone should be careful and follow all safety measures. Since there are possibilities of aftershocks, being alert is very important. The authorities are in deep insight of the occurrence."
Precautionary Measures for Earthquakes
In light of the tremors, the officials suggest the following precautions:
- Stay calm and avoid panic.
- Go to open areas with no buildings or power lines nearby be safe.
- If you are staying inside, then get under a strong table.
- Do not use elevators during tremors.
- Keep an emergency kit with essentials like water, food, and first aid supplies.
An alert will be issued once the situation becomes severe. Residents will also be informed about what to do.
