The world's top-ranked player Jannik Sinner has been given a three-month suspension from ATP Tour after he failed the doping test. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) held the doctrine that he took banned stimulants by mistake and thus he was forgiven. Nevertheless, this verdict has caused a storm among the tennis professionals.
Players Oppose the Decision of WADA
Stan Wawrinka, a three-time Grand Slam Champion, has made a remark that the sport as a whole has its weak points, "I no longer believe that tennis is a flawless sport." He pointed out that Sinner’s team’s efforts to limit the punishment given were commendable; however, the result was still not a good one thus it could lead to even more negative outcomes.
Also the World number-8 player, Daniil Medvedev who was suspended from some tournaments in 2017, did not conform to the decision either. He stated, "I hope that from now on, everyone can discuss with WADA and defend themselves like Yannick Sinclair."
Tim Henman, a former British tennis player, further went on to opine that WADA's judgment on it was harmful to the sport of tennis thus it was the main topic of the debate on fair treatment of doping cases.
