Dilruba Movie Review: Did Kiran Abbavaram Serve Another Hit?

Kiran Abbavaram, after the success of 'Ka,' has shot up audience expectations with his selection of varied stories. With increased expectations for 'Dilruba,' driven by great songs and promotional content, audiences were keen to know whether this movie would extend another hit to his filmography. Therefore, did 'Dilruba' live up to expectations? Let's find out.

Storyline

The storyline is about Siddhu, or Siddharth (acted by Kiran Abbavaram), a love-failure-stricken young guy. Having lost his father to emotional trauma, Siddhu terminates his relationship with Maggie (played by Nazia) amidst unexpected circumstances. Determined to begin anew, Siddhu moves to Bangalore, where he comes across Anjali (played by Rukshar Dhillon), who develops feelings for him after one fleeting meeting. Even though he initially spurns her, Siddhu later returns her affection. Overruling.

But a miscommunication tenses their relationship, and Maggie comes back from the United States to repair their bond. The story then traces the unfolding drama — why did Anjali insist on an apology from Siddhu? What was Maggie's role in their reconciliation? And what prompted Maggie to eventually leave Siddhu?

Story Execution

'Dilruba' offers a fresh character-driven storyline, that of a person who never utters "sorry" or "thank you." Although this concept is interesting, the implementation in the film is not. The history behind why Siddhu dislikes these words is shallow and does not allow audiences to empathize.

The initial scenes of the film, such as Siddhu's break-up with Maggie and relocation to Bangalore, are good. But the romantic thread between Siddhu and Anjali is riddled with predictability and repetition. Their college encounters, which are supposed to generate chemistry, are contrived. The first half fails to create an interesting plot.

In the second half, Maggie's return seems to hold out the promise of a turning point, but this subplot collapses very soon. The move of sending her back by her husband to reunite Siddhu and Anjali seems unrealistic and inadequately motivated. The follow-up sequence involving a Joker figure, where Siddhu gets into trouble for misplaced drugs, seems forced and disconnected. While there are some good climax scenes, the movie ends on a disappointing note.

Performances and Technical Aspects

  • Kiran Abbavaram is full of energy in fight scenes and sports a fresh appearance. His emotional portrayal, though, lacks punch.
  • Rukshar Dhillon is charming in portraying Anjali but her romance with Kiran doesn't make the cut.
  • Nazia's portrayal as Maggie, though crucial, doesn't make much of an impact.
  • The director's effort to create an engaging story doesn't cut through, and Satya's character is wasted.

On the technical front:

  • Sam CS's music is the film's biggest strength, with soothing and catchy songs.
  • Daniel Vishwas's camerawork is lackluster, and the production values of the film are not up to mark.

Strengths

  • Kiran Abbavaram's performance
  • Sam CS's catchy soundtrack

Weaknesses

  • Poor narration
  • Lack of emotional depth
  • A lackluster second half

Conclusion

'Dilruba' tries to offer a new idea by basing it on a character-oriented story, but it falters because of poor narrative movement and weak emotional connect. Kiran Abbavaram's performance and the music of the movie are some positive aspects, but the overall delivery is something that leaves much to be desired.
