There was a number of earthquakes that struck the north of India on the early morning of the day. Initially, there were tremors in Delhi and the surrounding areas, which were then followed by another earthquake in Bihar just a few hours later. But it is possible that there may have been more than one in the intervening period.
Earthquake in Bihar
At around 8:02 AM in the morning, a 4.0 Richter scale earthquake took place in Bihar. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Siwan, 10 km deep. The authorities have not yet been able to ascertain any material damage or injury caused by the abrupt tremors.
Tremors in Delhi-NCR
Earlier, at 5:35 AM, an earthquake of 4.0 magnitude hit Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad. The tremors lasted for some seconds, thus the people had to dash outside their homes in panic. In addition to that, some residents said that there was a rather violent rumble during the quake. People in the street could observe the shaking of the buildings and electricity poles.
Government Response
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to his Twitter page and commented on it, stating that aftershocks were likely going to happen. He, therefore, called on the citizens to be vigilant and observe safety measures.
Moreover, the situation is still under the surveillance of the authorities and they are collecting any available information to ascertain the totality of the damage.
