The Kannada actress Ranya Rao's case, who was nabbed trying to smuggle gold from Dubai, has brought a lot of attention. Ranya Rao is now being questioned by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) after she was taken into custody. Ranya Rao reportedly made some startling admissions during the interrogation, such as how she had picked up gold smuggling tips from YouTube videos.
Ranya Rao’s Statement on the Incident
According to reports, Ranya Rao stated that she had been receiving calls from unknown numbers for two weeks prior to the incident. On March 1, she received a call from an international number instructing her to go to Gate A at Terminal 3 of Dubai Airport.
"They told me to collect gold from there and deliver it to Bengaluru," Ranya Rao reportedly confessed. She added that this was her first attempt at smuggling and claimed she had never engaged in such activities before.
How Ranya Rao Attempted to Conceal the Gold
The actress detailed how she obtained two plastic covers containing the gold. To hide the gold effectively, she purchased bandages and scissors at the airport.
"I went to the restroom, secured the gold bars to my body, and concealed them inside my jeans and shoes. I learned these methods by watching YouTube videos," Ranya Rao explained.
Despite following instructions closely, she claimed she did not know the identity of the person who contacted her. She mentioned that the caller’s voice resembled that of an African-American individual.
Delivery Instructions and Further Details
Ranya Rao further stated that she was unaware of the intended recipient of the gold.
"After leaving the airport toll gate, I was told to place the gold in an auto-rickshaw parked at a signal along the service road. I don’t know who that person was," she told the authorities.
The actress also mentioned that she had frequently traveled to Dubai for photography and real estate purposes. She claimed to have visited various regions, including Europe, Africa, and America, several times in the past.
DRI Investigation Progress
The DRI officials are now investigating the contacts and data on Ranya Rao’s phone and laptop to uncover the smuggling network involved in the case. Further inquiries are underway to trace the individuals behind the operation.
