A huge milestone in Connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Jammu and Kashmir on Monday to inaugurate the Z-Morh tunnel, a landmark infrastructure project in Ganderbal district. Key dignitaries to attend were the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The Prime Minister, after inaugurating the tunnel took a look at the same from inside; he was of the view that it holds strategic importance.

Improving Road Connectivity to Ladakh

The Z-Morh tunnel is a 6.5-kilometer-long engineering marvel constructed on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway. Estimated at Rs 2,400 crore, this tunnel was built to ensure all-weather access to the Ladakh region, which otherwise faces seasonal constraints. This is one of the greatest achievements for enhancing connectivity and growth in the economy.

Timeline of Development

The construction work of the Z-Morh tunnel began in 2015 and was completed in 2024, thus consuming nearly a decade of dedicated effort. It underlines the commitment of the country to the modernization of infrastructure and improvements in transportation networks, especially in geographically challenging regions.
